Center for Recruitment and Retention of Mathematics Teachers
The Mathematics Teacher Induction Project supports middle and high school teachers new to mathematics education. Participants attend monthly Saturday sessions throughout the school year. These sessions provide a forum to share ideas, materials, and concerns, deepen mathematical knowledge, model good teaching, and promote collegiality. In addition to the Saturday sessions, each participant is assigned a coach from the University of Arizona. These coaches are all former middle or high school teachers. Coaches and teachers meet several times a semester to help plan lessons, observe, collaborate on concerns including classroom management, best practices, motivation, maximizing classroom participation and time on task, assessment techniques and more. The coaches also participate in the monthly Saturday sessions. Participants receive an $800 stipend.
Schedule
Mandatory monthly Saturday meetings run from August through April, 8:00 am - 12:30 pm.
